THREE NEW DIRECTORS AT EMD AG

EMD AG APPOINTS REPRESENTATIVES OF ALL THE MAJOR MARKETS TO STRATEGY ORGAN

 

 

 

EMD General Meeting elects three new directors – All the major countries and regions now represented in the EMD strategy organ – Mandate of all directors runs until 2007

The General Meeting of EMD AG, Europe’s number 1 purchasing and marketing organisation, elected three new directors on 16.06.2006 in Stresa / Italy. These are Serge Papin, CEO of SYSTÈME-U (France), who was also appointed as one of the three vice presidents of the organ,  Niklaus Knüsel, CEO of Markant AG (Germany / Switzerland) and Renaud Cogels, CEO of the Delhaize Europe group which is represented in Belgium, Luxemburg, Greece, Romania and the Czech Republic.

 

“The Board of Directors is the strategic organ of EMD in which future scenarios are discussed and the long-term strategic decisions are made,” explains Dr. Peter Hampl, delegate of the Board of Directors of EMD AG. “It is therefore essential for our further development that all of the main countries and regions are represented in this committee. The General Meeting has responded to   this with the election of three new directors and thus laid the optimum basis for the continuation of our success. At the same time we are underlining our reinforced orientation towards the retail members, and this is now reflected in the composition of the uppermost strategic organ of EMD.”

 

The mandate of the three newly elected directors will run, just as that of the existing directors (Jaime Rodriguez, Riccardo Francioni, Dudley B. Ramsden, Claus-Jürgen Kaiser, Dr. Peter Hampl and Dr. Philippe Dobler) up to the General Meeting 2007.

 

EMD market share in Europe 11.6 per cent

EMD has a turnover potential of around € 119 billion and a market share of 11.6 per cent. Its more than 1,100 members from the independent retail trade are operating in 20 European countries with 51,000 outlets in food retailing and 40,000 convenience shops, kiosks and filling stations. All together they have a selling space of around 30 million m2. Through its members EMD AG is present in the markets of the following countries: Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Germany, Denmark, Spain, Finland, France, Greece, Great Britain, Italy, Ireland, Netherlands, Sweden, Romania, Poland, Bulgaria, Croatia, Hungary.
