IFDE – Representation on an European level

On the European level, EMD AG is represented by the IFDE – Independent Food Distributors of Europe. The IFDE defines its aims as follows:

1. The task of the association is to promote the interests of co-operating small and medium-sized wholesalers and retailers and of voluntary retailing groups in the purchase and sale of food and non-food products. These tasks include in particular:

a. Carrying out surveys on the European level and collecting scientific information relating to legal, economic 

    and socio-political matters, processing it and making it available to the members;

b. Representing the professional interests of its members in international organisations and associations, 

    especially vis à vis the institutions of the European Union;

c. Drawing up position papers and carrying out public relations work from the viewpoint of European

    integration;

d. Advising and assisting members in all legal, economic and organisational matters of an international

    relevance and to represent them in litigation;

e. Maintaining the interchange of information between the members.

 

2. The association is not for profit. It maintains no business operations.

IFDE - Full membership of UGAL

Since 2001, IFDE has been a full member of UGAL, the organisation which represents small and medium-sized retailers in Brussels. This will enable the IFDE to draw on this organisation’s decades of European experience and to exert a key influence on the future strategy of the UGAL through its seat and vote on the Board. Combining the forces of UGAL and IFDE will strengthen the presence of small and medium-sized independent retailers in dealings with the European administrative bodies in Brussels.

The interests of the EMD members in the IFDE will be looked after by Dr. Peter Hampl, Managing Director of EMD and General Secretary of the IFDE.

Since 2004 Dr. Peter Hampl is a president of UGAL.
