Since being founded in 1969, MARKANT Österreich GmbH (formerly called ZEV Markant Zentrale Einkaufs- und Vertriebsgesellschaft m.b.H. & Co) has, as a purchasing and sales company, pooled on the potential, dynamism and innovative strength of its members to offer industry an attractive package.
The resulting advantages give the medium-sized member companies with strong regional presence the necessary competitive balance and the ability to compete with multinational and national trading groups. The members are mainly family-operated companies in the various forms of organisation in the retail trade. They occupy an outstanding market position in the areas of cash & carry and in the catering segment with the focus on tourism. In the area of two-phase retailing, the Nah&Frisch chain achieved a new position on the national level which has given it even greater market potential.
MARKANT Österreich GmbH currently has 38 members. It is one of the top 4 trading companies in the country and the market-proximity of its member structure makes it an alternative to the retail multiples.
The group provides its services within the framework of three companies:
MARKANT Österreich GmbH steers purchasing negotiations, concludes cooperation agreements with industry, pursues the national and international Food and Near-Food business and supervises its own brands. Moreover, Markant Österreich is responsible for all clearing issues.
ZEV Nah&Frisch Marketingservice Gesellschaft m.b.H., takes care of the Austrian retail umbrella brand name “Nah&Frisch” used by 680 independent retailers.
In Tip Top WarenhandelsgmbH, the non-food oriented members work together.
