Musgrave Group Founded in 1876, the Irish Musgrave Group is today one of the most long-established companies in the trading sector in Ireland and Great Britain. Musgrave is one of the largest private companies in Ireland and is a pioneer there in the field of franchise supermarkets and convenience stores with the sales channels SuperValu and Centra as well as in food wholesaling. Today the group operates a sales and support network for independent retailers in Ireland, Northern Ireland and Spain. In 2002 it made its first step on the English market with the acquisition of BUDGENS, a supermarket and convenience store chain in southern England. With the takeover of Londis in 2004, Musgrave is now the most rapidly expanding chain in the United Kingdom with over 2’044 independent groceries outlets. The development of the Musgrave Group is extremely dynamic: since 2001 turnover has increased by 75%. At present Musgrave operates the following retailer partnerships: · Musgrave Retail Partners Ireland and Musgrave Retail Partners Northern Ireland support more than 946 independent Supervalu supermarkets, Mace convenience stores and Centra convenience stores in a franchise system. These brands combined provide the largest retail offering in the Irish food retail market. · Musgrave Retail Partners GB operates the Budgens and Londis brand in Great Britain. The two chains combined operations in 2004. Budgens operates over 183 supermarkets in the south-west of England; Londis is one of the most rapidly growing chains in Great Britain and represents over 1’861 independent retailers in England, Scotland and Wales. · Musgrave Wholesale Partners (MWP) operates three key usiness models in Ireland and Northern Ireland. TheCash and Carry business serves over 34’000 customers across Ireland, the Musgrave Foodservice business serves the catering sector and is market leader and this business also supports the three convenience chains of Daybreak, Day-Today and XL Stop & Shop. This retailbrand holds a presence of over 369 stores across the island. · Based in Alicante in the south-east of Spain, Musgrave Spain (Dialsur) operates 53 outlets under the name “Dialprix”, 17 medium-sized cash & carrys and 23 SuperValue stores in Spain. The core of Musgrave’s philosophy is to reinforce the local presence and the roots of the independent retailer as a personal local provider against the anonymity of the major retail chains. Service by the retailer, a commitment to sustainability and long-term stability in all relationships and activities are further important values.
