SUPERUNIE The purchasing organisation Superunie supports 16 independent retailing companies with more than 2'000 outlets in the Netherlands with a market share of over 34%. Since 1956, it has always combined its joint purchasing potential with the regional know-how of the members and has thus reached a leading market position at number 1. Many of the members are family-operated companies and strongly anchored in their local markets. This guarantees that they can respond to regional requirements as well as ensuring the loyalty of consumers in an ever more impersonal world.
Superunie is the procurement centre for almost the whole product range of its members, it carries out the negotiations with the national and multinational industry, it develops and manages the Private Label ranges, including Perfekt, 1 de Beste, Jumbo, Plus, Spar and Markant, and develops premium brands, such as First Choice Cola, Bonbébé, TopVit, Melkan, Bumblies, Derlon cosmetic and Daily Chef Menus. The total amount of Private Label en Premium Brands is 1’000 products. A price fighter range of around 300 articles is also available to the members.
Logistics are handled efficiently and at low cost through central warehouses. Order processing and payment transactions are also centralised. Superunie also publishes the consumer magazine “Boodschappen” on behalf of its members for more than 1'700 outlets. 4,5 million readers take advantage of the shopping tips of the 2,2 million copies every month. Monthly over 125’000 users visit the websites www.boodschappen.nl and www.tsjakka.nl.
The Netherlands food retail sector increased its turnover by 3,5% in 2007 compared with the previous year. The group around Superunie accounted for a large part of this development.
