Axfood
The Swedish Axfood AB is one of the largest providers in the Scandinavian food retail trade. The stock exchange-listed company is involved in both retailing and wholesaling. With Willys and Hemköp, the group has two separate chains with 220 outlets and is associated with more than 500 independent groceries shops through close agreements. These include outlets under the brand names Handlar’n and Tempo, as well as outlets within Axfood’s own labels. Axfood handles its wholesaling activity through two subsidiary companies – Dagab and Axfood Närlivs.
The Swedish market is characterised by intensive competition, which is due mainly to numerous new openings of outlets. For this reason, some regions are already seeing an over-saturation of the market, which gives the consumer more choice, but confronts the trade with new challenges. With organic growth and innovation, Axfood will assert and further expand its strong position against this background. It will also pursue new strategies and measures in the areas of costs control, IT structure and brand name architecture and cultivation.
